Mizrach

This Mizrach (Hebrew for East) is Meryl's interpretation of traditional, intricate, Jewish papercut designs, using hand painted dyes on silk.  A Mizrach is typically placed on a wall facing Jerusalem to indicate the direction in which to pray. The Hebrew word Mizrach is also an acronym for ‘from this side comes the spirit of life’.  Each design element has symbolic significance.

Meryl developed her proprietary Silk-under-Glass technique to transform original photography and silk paintings into luminous art. Her images are reproduced on silk and then mounted under curved glass. The effect of light flowing through the translucent silk illuminates the image, which brings it to life and allows it to be viewed from both sides of the glass. 

The Mizrach comes with a card that explains the symbolic meaning of each element and your choice of a wall mount or acrylic easel for tabletop display.
